BBQ Danger?

Posted by Ed on August 7, 2003

In its regular ‘Don’t Panic!’ series, Sp!ked magazine takes a wry look at a recent report on the potentially dangerous effects of barbecueing.

The BBC reports, alarmingly, ‘a typical two-hour barbecue can release the same level of dioxins as up to 220,000 cigarettes’. These quantities from four steaks, four bits of turkey and eight sausages.

Desmond Hammerton, a marine biologist who obviously doesn’t get out much, called in an interview with the BBC’s Today programme for BBQs to come with a health warning.

I think it all depends on the quality of the sausages.
