Labour Party Conference

Posted by Ed on October 2, 2003

Labour will this year sing “The Red Flag” at its party conference, for the first time in four years. This spectacle, as the Guardian charmingly points out, “will go down like a plate of cold sick” amongst New Labour’s Middle England supporters.

For those who don’t know it, here are the first verse and chorus:

The people’s flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts’ blood dyed its every fold.
Chorus:
Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we’ll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We’ll keep the red flag flying here.

The rest you can find here, or here.
